Responsibilities

• Develop and evolve Android features for Traveller Payments, enabling secure, seamless, and reliable payment experiences for millions of users worldwide.

• Collaborate closely with other native Android engineers, as well as backend, product, risk, compliance, and design teams within the Fintech Products organization.

• Work with the wider Traveller Payments and Fintech Mobile Apps teams to ensure a consistent and high-quality experience across platforms.

• Ensure production-grade quality of the payments experience by:

  • Monitoring crashes, ANRs, and payment-related incidents

  • Debugging and resolving complex issues (e.g. payment failures, edge cases, SDK integrations)

  • Leading or contributing to incident investigations and post-mortems when needed

• Continuously improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of the payment flows, optimizing app resources and network usage.

• Ensure Traveller Payments features remain up-to-date with Android platform advancements, security best practices, and internal fintech and compliance guidelines.

• Own and enforce test coverage and quality SLAs, implementing robust testing strategies for critical payment paths.

• Perform profiling to identify bottlenecks, optimize performance, and ensure payment health metrics are defined, monitored, and actionable.

• Translate business, financial, and regulatory requirements into well-designed technical solutions.

• Prioritize issues and improvements based on customer impact, payment success rates, and business risk.

• Mentor and support teammates by:

  • Actively contributing to onboarding new engineers

  • Fostering professional growth and technical excellence within the team

• Collaborate cross-functionally with Android engineers, backend engineers, product owners, data analysts, risk specialists, and QA to continuously improve traveller trust and conversion.

• Contribute to the company's growth through interviewing, onboarding, and recruitment initiatives.

Experience & Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional experience as an Android Developer, ideally working on consumer-facing apps at scale.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android architecture patterns.

• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and a strong passion for building high-quality software.

• Extensive experience writing Unit tests, UI tests, and Snapshot tests, especially for business-critical flows.

• Proven ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and proactively drive solutions in a complex, large-scale environment.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• High attention to detail, particularly important when building financial and payment-related features.

• A self-starter mindset, strong motivation, and a collaborative team-player attitude.

• Fully comfortable working in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

• Experience building and maintaining approved Google Play Store apps with high traffic.

• Exposure to payments, fintech, or financial services, including concepts such as transactions, retries, idempotency, or security.

• Experience with A/B testing and experimentation in mobile apps.

• Passion for open-source contributions.

• Comfort tackling deep technical challenges at large scale, particularly in high-availability systems.

Strong curiosity for fintech innovation, mobile security, and emerging Android technologies.
