Financial Risk - CASS & Safeguarding Manager
Ebury Madrid Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home per week
Role Overview:
Ebury is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Risk - CASS & Safeguarding Manager to play a crucial role in ensuring the robust protection of customer funds and adherence to relevant regulations, particularly concerning safeguarding requirements and, where applicable, the Client Assets Sourcebook (CASS) or equivalent local regulations.
Based in our Madrid office, you will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and overseeing the monitoring framework for safeguarding and CASS compliance across the organization. Crucially, this role extends beyond safeguarding; you will also be a key contributor to Ebury's Financial Risk Management function. This position requires exceptional analytical rigor, organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate across multiple internal stakeholders to ensure risk standards are implemented consistently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Monitoring Frameworks: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive monitoring programs to assess the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements and, where applicable, CASS compliance across all relevant business areas.
- Conduct Compliance Monitoring: Execute regular monitoring activities, including but not limited to:
- Reviewing and testing policies, procedures, and controls related to safeguarding and UK Client Money & Assets (CASS).
- Analyzing transaction data and reconciliation processes to identify potential breaches or weaknesses.
- Conducting thematic reviews and risk-based assessments of safeguarding and CASS compliance.
- Performing on-site and remote reviews of operational processes.
- Identify and Report Findings: Accurately document monitoring activities, findings, and recommendations in clear and concise reports. Escalate significant compliance issues and potential breaches in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders and senior management.
- Track and Validate Remediation: Monitor the implementation of agreed-upon remediation plans to address identified weaknesses and ensure timely resolution of compliance issues. Validate the effectiveness of implemented corrective actions.
- Provide Expert Advice and Guidance: Serve as a subject matter expert on safeguarding requirements and, where applicable, Safeguarding rules and provide guidance and support to relevant departments on their obligations.
- Develop and Deliver Training: Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs on safeguarding and CASS compliance to relevant staff to enhance awareness and understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Maintain Regulatory Awareness: Stay up-to-date with changes in relevant regulations, industry best practices, and regulatory expectations related to safeguarding and client asset protection. Assess the impact of these changes on the firm's compliance framework.
- Contribute to Policy Development: Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of internal policies and procedures related to safeguarding and CASS compliance, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Liaise with Internal and External Stakeholders: Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Operations, Finance, Treasury, Legal, Compliance) and external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, regulators) as required.
- Contribute to Risk Assessments: Participate in the firm's risk assessment processes to identify and evaluate safeguarding and CASS-related risks.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) in a compliance or risk management monitoring role within the financial services or payments industry, with a strong focus on safeguarding requirements and, ideally, experience with CASS or equivalent local regulations and/or with exposure to financial risk metrics (e.g., liquidity, market or credit risk)
- In-depth understanding of relevant payment regulations and safeguarding obligations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A quantitative background or a strong ability to handle complex financial data sets with extreme precision.
- Additional Regulatory knowledge of MiFID, COBS, FCA principles, financial promotions, best execution, client classification desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluency in English is a must and Spanish is highly desirable.

- Compliance Monitoring: Proven ability to design, implement, and execute effective compliance monitoring programs.
- Risk Assessment: Understanding of risk management principles and their application to safeguarding and CASS compliance.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Report Writing: Excellent ability to document findings and recommendations in clear and concise reports.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information effectively to different audiences.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and meticulousness in reviewing information.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and analyze issues and propose effective solutions.
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Integrity and Ethics: Strong ethical principles and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
