  • Knowledge/experience of a microbiology laboratory would be of advantage. 
  • Experience in working as part of a team. 
  • Good origination and time management,

Job Description

The purpose of this post is to complete, to the required quality standards, the analysis of samples for a given method using laboratory techniques. Further, assist in the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory.

Please note the working hours for this role are 37.5 per week, Saturday to Wednesday 09:30 till 17:30.

  • Sub-culturing, plate reading, confirmations, and validation of analytical results as required.
  • Registering food sample for rapid analysis, taking temperature checks from samples on receipt promptly where necessary.
  • Carry out media QC, IQC, environmental monitoring in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
  • Run any equipment required for analysis, such as Vidas/GeneUP.
  • Report results in accordance with methods of analysis and customer requirements.
  • Be familiar with laboratory FGS software and implement processes relating to sample/test data entry.
  • Report and investigate any media quality control failures without delay.
  • Ensure all appropriate paperwork is filled out daily.
  • Drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
  • Raise NCWs following any non-conformance, investigate root causes, and implement actions to assist with continuous improvement.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the work area, ensuring it is always kept clean and tidy with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment. This includes the removal of waste generated while working, following guidelines for waste disposal.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory Quality Manual to ensure compliance at all times with policies, procedures, and associated documents.
  • Assist in meeting the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.
  • Highlight any issues identified to the Line Leader/Team Leader.
  • Provide high-level internal and external customer care by ensuring all results are delivered accurately.
