We're looking for an Area Manager to join our Central Operations team supporting Same Day delivery across EU markets. You'll lead a team of Shift Managers and Schedulers, driving performance through data-driven decision-making while building scalable processes and systems that balance hands-on execution with strategic thinking. In this role, you'll monitor real-time operations across the EU network, facilitate network-wide DBRs, and dive deep into delivery performance trends to identify gaps and implement corrective actions. You'll operate in highly ambiguous, fast-moving environments where no two days are the same-coordinating with site operators to respond to demand fluctuations, partnering with cross-functional teams including Capacity Planning and DSP partners to evaluate technical improvements, and proactively leading process improvement initiatives that optimize cost, customer experience, and delivery partner satisfaction. We seek leaders who embody our bias for action, can think big, thrive in ambiguity, make decisions under pressure, and take ownership of outcomes while working backwards from customer needs to scale solutions across multiple markets. You'll gain experience leading a large and diverse team at a global business, learning the complexity of operations while building the future of retail and maintaining our promise of ultra-fast delivery to customers.
Your ability to think big, solve complex logistics challenges in real-time, and use data, judgment, and ownership to protect customer promise and delivery speed will be critical to success in this role.
Key job responsibilities
As an Area Manager in Central Operations supporting Same Day, you will lead a team of Shift Managers and Schedulers to drive performance across the EU AMZL network. You will be responsible for building processes, systems, and mechanisms while driving execution and efficiency through data-driven decision-making and analytical problem-solving. You will be accountable for cost, customer experience, and delivery partner experience, both in daily execution and long-term step-function improvements.
* Lead and develop a team of Shift Managers and Schedulers across the EU AMZL Same Day network, providing coaching, mentorship, and building leadership bench strength while managing daily operations and ensuring all critical tasks are executed on time.
* Monitor real-time Same Day operations across the EU network, coordinating with site operators to respond to demand fluctuations, operational issues, and exceptions while maintaining service quality and business continuity.
* Drive performance through data-driven analysis, conducting deep dives on delivery trends, OTR performance, capacity utilization, and key metrics to identify gaps and implement corrective actions during network-wide DBRs.
* Build scalable processes and systems to achieve performance targets, often developing scrappy solutions to overcome technical limitations while creating standard work that enables remote support of complex operations.
* Proactively identify and lead process improvement initiatives through quantitative analysis, focusing on cost optimization, customer experience, and delivery partner satisfaction to deliver step-function improvements.
* Partner with cross-functional teams including Capacity Planning, Speed, S&OP and DSP partners to evaluate technical improvements, resolve operational challenges, and ensure alignment on capacity planning and forecasting.
* Maintain accurate performance reporting and analysis, tracking daily and weekly metrics to support data-driven decision-making and facilitate information flow across departments.
* Contribute to long-term strategic planning for Amazon's delivery network objectives, continuously evaluating opportunities to maximize network capacity, quality, and cost efficiency across EU markets.
* Execute best practices that balance daily operational needs with long-term scalability while maintaining safety standards and meeting customer demands.
* Create and manage recognition and communication programs to drive team engagement and foster positive employee relations.
A day in the life
As an operations lead, you'll balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution across our delivery network. Your day involves facilitating network-wide DBRs, analyzing real-time performance dashboards for OFD volumes and capacity metrics, and diving deep into delivery trends with OTR area leaders. You'll seamlessly shift between leading business reviews, managing daily team operations, handling individual escalations like abortive routes or intraweek capacity adjustments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and DSP partners to evaluate technical improvements. Throughout, you'll continuously monitor key performance metrics, drive process improvement initiatives to maximize network capacity and cost efficiency, and contribute to long-term strategic planning-all while maintaining safety standards and ensuring we meet customer demands across EU markets.
