This is what you will do:

The EpidemiologyandReal WorldScience (Epi-RWS) team is a growing group within the Alexion-AstraZencaRare Disease Unit which is driving the scientific use ofReal WorldData to accelerate the way that patients access innovative medicines.

TheEpidemiologistis a scientific role that involvessupporting thedevelopmentandexecution ofimpactfulepidemiologicaldeliverablesthat deepen our understanding ofrare diseases, with a focus on Alexion'sclinical development programs and post-marketing studies.

Theroleinvolvesworking closely with other Epidemiologistsand RealWorldDataScientistsin the departmenttosupportthe development, execution, interpretation and communicationof scientifically robust stage-appropriate evidencethat enhances decision-making across the portfolio,such as:conducting literature reviews;characterizingincidence and prevalence tosupport regulatory and safetydocuments;critically appraising & synthesizing relevant literature; analysis of real-world databases; describing patient characteristics, natural history, treatment patterns and outcomes; quantification of event rates and phenotypic / genotypic traits or associations; and landscaping for suitable data-sources.

This role involvessupportingengagementswithcolleagues across the company,including:Clinical Development,GlobalPatient Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Global Medical Affairs, and Global Marketing. The Epidemiologist mayparticipatein cross-functional teams and sub-team meetings, under the guidance ofsenior members of theEpi-RWS department whenappropriate.

TheEpidemiologistmust have mature team-working behaviors with organizational awareness and insight. The ideal candidate will have experience with analysis and interpretation of epidemiologic data within the context of rare diseasesanda passion for applying epidemiology to support life-transforming therapiesfor patients.

You willbe responsible for:

  • Supporting theplanning, development,and execution ofEpidemiology deliverables, with a focus onAlexion'sclinical development programs and post-marketing studies, including:conducting literature reviews,characterizingincidence and prevalenceto support regulatory and safety documents; critically appraising & synthesizing relevant literature; analysis of real-world databases; describing patient characteristics, natural history, treatment patterns and outcomes; quantification of event rates and phenotypic / genotypic traits or associations; and landscaping for suitable data-sources.

  • Providingepidemiologysupportinto study protocols, analysis plans,and regulatory documents.

  • Summarizingresultsin written reports and oral presentations.

  • Mayparticipatein cross-functional team meetingsandsupportingthepresentation of summary findings to Alexion internal/external stakeholders.

  • Maintainingawareness of epidemiology with respect to regulatory requirements, payer trends, and advancement of pharmacoepidemiology methods.

  • Travel may berequired(up to 10%).

You will need to have:

  • MPH/MSc in Epidemiologyor closely related discipline.

  • The duties of this role aregenerally conductedin an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodationto:use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging;engage inproblem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We wouldpreferfor you to have:

  • Excellent oral andwrittencommunicationskills,in English.

  • Knowledge of drug and clinical development processes.

  • Excellent attention todetailandscientificrigor.

  • Abilitytoworkunderpressure and lead byexample.

  • Hands-onexperienceimplementingordesigningstudiesusingRWD(e.g.,throughuse ofproprietaryanalyticsplatforms and/orstatisticalprogramminginR, Python,SASetc).

  • Stronginterpersonalskillsandabilitytoworkeffectivelyinmultidisciplinaryteams.

  • Thoroughand up-to-datetechnicalknowledgeofepidemiologyand relevantbiostatisticsmethods.
