What is Research Integrity - and why does it matter?
At Frontiers, our Research Integrity team plays a critical role in ensuring that the science we publish is trustworthy, ethical, and rigorously vetted. As a Research Integrity Auditor Specialist, you will be at the forefront of investigating complex cases, identifying patterns, and helping shape the future of ethical publishing.
You will report to the Research Integrity Auditing Manager and collaborate closely with colleagues across all journal portfolios.
As a Research Integrity Auditor Specialist, you will:
- Review current editorial pipelines and journal practices to proactively identify potential research integrity risks.
- Lead in-depth assessments of escalated cases involving manuscripts, editors, reviewers, and authors.
- Analyze existing processes and recommend improvements to prevent future issues.
- Assess the urgency of cases and escalate them appropriately when needed.
- Work closely with Research Integrity Managers and Specialists to gather insights and align on next steps.
- Present findings and proposed actions clearly, ensuring each case reaches a well-documented resolution.
You are:
- Experienced in academic or STM publishing, with exposure to research integrity or ethical issue management.
- A confident communicator who can navigate sensitive conversations with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Educated to MSc/PhD level or equivalent.
- Fluent in English (C2 level), with solid working knowledge of Excel and Salesforce.
Requirements
Business expertise
- Knowledge of publishing and open access in particular
- Awareness of common research integrity and publication ethics concerns
Technical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Additional skills
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Time management and organizational skills
Abilities / Competencies / Soft Skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to navigate through challenging conversations, gather information and manage stakeholders' expectations in a diplomatic and professional manner
- A pro-active mindset that enjoys finding solutions, preventing unnecessary escalations and taking ownership of situations.
Experience & Education
- Educated to Master's level or PhD
- Previous experience in academic/STM publishing with some exposure to research integrity or dealing with ethical issues.
