Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for quality & conformance of product to customer specifications per control plans utilizing IATF16949 documented systems; authority to stop non-conforming processes and report same to Supervisor, Quality Assurance and/or Engineering representative
Set the strategic direction for the assigned Business Unit in line with Eagle Bend's Business Plan objectives and lead team to set and accomplish their goals
Assume full responsibility for all production activity in the Business Unit based on schedules created by Production Control/Materials department personnel
Works closely with the Materials Manager to assure availability of material and machines to fulfill customer demands, control inventory, and maintain production planning and reporting
Ensure that all customer demands regarding Quality and Delivery of the products are consistently met or exceeded according to IATF16949 standards
Assume responsibility for the safe & efficient operation of the Business Unit and for the safety of all members of the team, as well as enforcement of safety & environmental policies
Fully support the utilization of all EBM systems at all times as well as the maintenance and periodic upgrade of our systems
Work closely with Engineering, Quality and Materials Management to assure product control at all times, while meeting customer requirements
Ensure that the Customer, People, and Investor goals are balanced in accordance with the Magna Operational Principles
Maintain existing work cells to meet and exceed customer requirements and satisfy Mafact internal audit requirements and appropriate supporting documentation
Ensure that the Business Unit is ready to pass system and process audits at any time, including customer visits and inspections; perform regular process audits as assigned
Review customer feedback on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and initiate counter measures and/or activities required to fulfill the customer's expectations
Root cause analysis and countermeasures implemented in a timely manner and follow-up on dimensional corrections; develop corrective actions in accordance with related departments
Maintain & improve housekeeping and plant organization within the Business Unit, including plant layouts and 5S standards
Monitor and address health, safety & environmental concerns on the shop floor including regulatory requirements, Incident Rate and Monthly Inspection results
Monitor quality issues and implement effective Corrective Actions and countermeasures toward our company goal of Zero Defects
Manage Business Unit monthly expenses, control overtime and spending, and participate in Eagle Bend's annual Business Planning process
Improve efficiency by reducing set-up times and analyze metrics for elimination of both scrap and waste wherever possible
Maintains a proactive management style, an open door policy for a positive employee relations climate, measured by the Employee Opinion Survey score and other satisfaction criteria
Uphold Magna's Employee Charter principles and enforce company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Magna's Operational Principles
Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures with emphasis on development of people and use of technology across the Business Unit
Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Materials, Stamping, and Assembly to assure flawless execution of new program launch activities
Assist operators in troubleshooting machine, die, and material problems and resolve issues which arise in the course of daily production
Provide adequate training of personnel assigned to the Business Unit and ensure that training needs are periodically reviewed & modified as required by the customer and/or external inputs
Works together with the Tooling and Maintenance Teams implementing and sustaining PM and TPM systems for all equipment utilized
Create and implement Continuous Improvement suggestions and encourage team members to seek CI opportunities
Fully support Magna's Ethics and Legal Compliance standards, procedures, and requirements and lead by example to ensure compliance by all Business Unit team members
Housekeeping and other activities as assigned
Skills:
Individual must have ability to manage manufacturing processes through effective planning and delegation of assignments
Must be able to speak, read, and write English at grade 12 minimum
Individual must be a good communicator and have excellent organizational ability,
good interpersonal skills and present a positive attitude
Must have thorough understanding of manufacturing operations, machine set-up and changeovers, safety, and quality issues
Must have profound understanding of customer product specifications and requirements as well as basic understanding of customer processes.
Ability to motivate Team Members to produce results & meet objectives
Ability to interface directly with customer representatives and develop strong customer relationships
Ability to lead discussions, meetings, presentations and forums and present information to customers, employees, and other managers
Communicates in accordance with Magna Operational Principles while treating fellow team members with integrity & respect at all times
Must be strong in root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures with strong quality background and understanding of customer requirements
Skilled at specification and problem definition, data collection, fact determination, drawing valid conclusions, and formulating clear recommendations
Strong Personal Computer (PC) skills and Microsoft Office skills with emphasis on Excel use
Individual must have excellent Systems Thinking ability & an entrepreneurial spirit
Solid understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and basic understanding of Production Control systems & procedures
Ability to utilize electronic communication means (telephone, fax, video conferencing, web conferencing, etc.)
Ability to write concise reports, business correspondence, and procedures
Strong mathematical skills, statistical analysis and ability to analyze data & identify trends
Solid understanding of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions
Good understanding of standard costing techniques & methods
Basic understanding of financial transactions and related concepts
Ability to use both metric and imperial measurement systems
Simultaneously deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to inspect products using fixtures and precise measuring equipment
Ability to visually monitor production processes and product quality as well as safety
Ability to interpret production schedules, reports, and data stored on PC's (Personal Computers), and mainframe computer system
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent is required
4 year college degree or technical training in a related field is preferred
Punch Press operation
Automated welding and assembly
Blueprint/tool & die print reading
Computer applications
Electrical, mechanical, and robotic maintenance helpful but not required
Metal fabrication
Qualifications:
10+ years supervisory experience with progressive leadership responsibility
10+ years manufacturing experience, preferably in automotive / Tier 1 environment
Experience in metal fabrication and automated assembly operations
Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment
Experience working with maintenance, tooling, and engineering teams
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices
Experience managing production KPIs (safety, quality, throughput, downtime)
Strong performance management and team leadership skills
Understanding of project management principles and production planning
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume manufacturing environment
