QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum B.S. in Food Science (or related field) with experience in product development or associated R&D functions
  • BS with 3-4+ years in industry, MS with 1-2+ years in industry or PhD with academic focus on hydrocolloids and/or emulsions 
  • Experience in food and/or beverage product development at a CPG company
  • Outstanding teamwork, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze and communicate implications of emerging consumer trends
  • Proven track record in maintaining good working relationships with business partners
  • Occasional flexibility in working hours to set up and complete pilot plant scaleups, or plant trials that may extend past typical working hours
  • Travel Requirements: 20%
  • This position is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in the United States

As an R&D Product Development Senior Scientist with PepsiCo, you will have unique opportunities to increase technical knowledge and problem-solving capability contributing within the Global Technical Brand Stewardship team. The team resolves rapid responds with ingredients, concentrate and finished product, reformulate market products to reflect changes in regulatory compliance and validate materials to ensure fit for purpose. Scientists participate in scaling up product from bench top to pilot plant and production start-up. Successful candidates thrive in an environment of fast-paced, consumer-driven product development.

Responsibilities

  • Fully participate in piloting / end user testing efforts in support of system enhancements
  • Design and execute experiments; analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues
  • Provide technical and business risk assessment/perspectives related to new product development
  • Perform economic evaluations on ingredients, ingredient suppliers, and product formulations
  • Develop product formulations that leverage expertise in food chemistry and food ingredient functionality
  • Partner internally with Global Science Platform and externally with key strategic vendors to source ingredients and leverage expertise in ingredient functionality
  • Participate as an active member of cross-functional business teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Supply Chain, Engineering, PGCS, and others
  • Partner with R&D disciplines such as Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Nutrition, and Regulatory to ensure a robust, safe and legal product design, and with Sensory & Consumer Product Insights to ensure thorough sensory and consumer validation

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $80,700 - $135,100.
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process.
  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 5% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.
