Associate Product Manager

Our product ecosystem is growing, and so is the complexity of merchant-facing information. We're seeking a passionate Associate Product Manager to transform how our merchants understand and use SumUp's Payments products. This role is your true entry point into Product Management at SumUp: you'll focus on making complex payment knowledge simple, clear, and available where merchants need it most. You'll build the foundations of product craft by deeply understanding our merchants and products through the lens of content, with a clear path to progress into a full Product Manager role.
What you'll do
- Translate Complexity: Transform complex product and ecosystem knowledge into simple, accurate, and well-structured merchant-facing materials (FAQs, Help pages, in-product content, emails, and articles).
- Identify Knowledge Gaps: Work closely with Product teams (especially Payments Experience), Merchant Success, Support, and PayOps to understand merchant pain points and proactively close knowledge gaps.
- Integrate Content as Product: Ensure information is treated as part of the product experience, showing up in the right place and format - from help pages and in-product surfaces (Apps, web dashboard, file reporting) to our AI assistant and Merchant Success materials.
- Ensure Consistency: Help create and maintain a consistent "voice" and structure for Payments documentation, ensuring merchants receive clear, coherent answers across all channels.
- Stakeholder Communication: Assist with crafting and presenting communications to key stakeholders, continuously learning about their needs and domain dependencies.
- Continuous Learning: Be continuously learning about stakeholder needs and domain dependencies, and how these need to be managed in the work of a product team.
TOUGHEST CHALLENGES YOU'LL TACKLE:
- Rapid Learning Curve: Quickly build a deep understanding of our Payments and reporting flows to materially improve merchant-facing documentation, especially around fiscal-year needs.
- Building a World-Class Experience: Help SumUp build one of the best-documented payments experiences among major EU players, internally and externally. This involves connecting multiple SumUp products (payments acceptance, POS, SumUp Bank, payouts, reporting) into cohesive, end-to-end narratives for merchants.
- Identify Product Improvement: Proactively discover areas where product clarity or functionality can be enhanced based on merchant feedback and content gaps, and support delivery.
What makes you great for this position
- Exceptional Written Communication: Strong ability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured content in English, and to improve existing FAQs, help articles, and AI responses.
- Structured Thinking: Able to break down messy topics into clear steps or sections and create logical information structures.
- Bias for Clarity: You prefer simple, unambiguous explanations over overly complex or "smart-sounding" language.
- Strong Merchant Empathy: A genuine focus on reducing friction for small businesses and helping them realize maximum value from products.
- Persistence with Ambiguity: You don't get stuck when things are not fully defined; you can move forward by asking questions and proposing drafts.
- Basic Analytical Skills: Able to spot patterns in questions and feedback (tickets, Merchant Success insights, AI conversations) and use them to prioritize content improvements with guidance.
- Collaborative Mindset: Experience working effectively in team settings (studies, internships, previous roles), collecting input from diverse stakeholders, and iterating based on feedback.
- Curiosity & Learning Potential: Previous experience as a Product Manager is not required; this role targets an early-career profile with high learning potential, rather than deep technical or payments expertise at the start.
Bonus points if you have:
- Previous exposure to payments, fintech, banking, or other financial products.
- Experience with producing documentation, help articles, educational content, or conversational scripts (e.g., for chatbots or AI assistants).
- Familiarity with content and collaboration tools (e.g., Notion, Confluence, CMS, basic analytics dashboards, AI tooling).
- Some exposure to agile product development environments (e.g., internships or projects with engineers/designers).
- Experience in customer-facing roles such as support, merchant success, operations, or sales, providing direct insight into user problems.
